This is a hot mess: insta-lust explained away by contrived connections over Trauma dump from all sides, history of rape trauma, foster system trauma, orphans, terminal cancer of a little kid they both care for, his entire personality is that he works for an orphanage charity… too much telling me and very little showing. Then add kidnapping + cheating and a dying parent to the mix! It’s like a soap opera

Trope I loathe unlocked: instead of finding a way for characters to truly bond of interests etc, they bond over heavy doses of trauma dump

The premise of this makes me uncomfortable and it’s off putting: lusting over your lifelong best friends girl... THEN, to build a connection other than lust between these two, whom the author TELLS me have chemistry but I haven’t felt it yet, the author uses a dying orphan? If this situation happened IRL I wouldn’t blame those ppl, but author chose to use this as a subterfuge to connect these two!
