It's interesting how Nels didn't think that Ash was being compassionate to him when she clearly was. 😟 I wonder if I'm going to learn more about him because right now he seems like a jerk.

The end of the chapter confirmed what I already thought. Ash wants to try and reconcile with Hazel and Mist. Beyond that, she wants to help them.

I understand why Hazel and her sister would be hesitant to reply to Ash's letters since she misjudged them in the first book. It's intriguing how Ash valued their friendship and she saw it as genuine. I wonder if they'll reconcile with Ash in this book and forgive her. 🤔

I'm too tired to finish this chapter is the story of my life on most nights. 😅 I'm recovering from GI issues so I'll lighten up on myself.

It was powerful when Ash explained to Splinter how she didn't feel a sense of belonging at home. I appreciated how Ash tried to empathize with Splinter.

Ash is keeping some secrets, though. This book would be boring if Ash spilled everything that she experienced in the first book to the other characters.

The mother and daughter dynamic between Ash and her mother was relatable. Aveline felt worried about Ash's safety while Ash didn't want to feel trapped or cooped up. Both perspectives were understandable.
