[SPOILER] “Hey, could I get two glasses of chardonnay?” Cora asks, surprising me, but unfortunately, she can’t quite manage to pull it off like… well, like some other people can.” I know, you know, Lee Know

[SPOILER] “Hey.” Her thumb rubs circles against my skin. The muscles in my body that have been tense since lunch finally loosen a little. “It doesn’t matter what I think or what Noah thinks or what anyone else thinks. Just follow your heart” She really is a great mom
She isn’t perfect, but she lets her do what she wants (while still ensuring it is *actually* what she wants), she lets her make her own mistakes…

[SPOILER] “I wait for her to argue with me, to try to convince me that I need her or that she needs me, but she doesn’t do any of those things.
“I’m sorry,” she says, her voice as quiet as a mouse. I look over at her to see that she’s not looking at me like I’m a stranger at all. She’s looking at me like I’m the person she loves most in this world and I just broke her heart, which is so much worse.” No, it isn’t

[SPOILER] “I know you better than anyone. I know for a fact that you don’t like that dress.”
“This isn’t about the dress! … It’s about me. I’m trying to move on from high school, but you just keep dragging me back! … Of course you don’t want me to date Cora, because that would mean I would actually have someone in my life who’s more important than you." Omg ouch

[SPOILER] “ By the time we make it through lunch, I’ve barely eaten any of my sandwich, because I’m a little puddle of stress and anxiety. So I pack it into a to-go box for later, then follow my mom back out to her car, Cora walking beside me.
“Thank God she liked me. I was so nervous,” she whispers” LMAO

[SPOILER] “I look over at my mom, and I can practically see her eyes
glazing over as Cora speaks.
“We’re—” I try to switch topics …, but Cora sort of plows over me with more details of her book.
I never realized how much she likes to talk. I was so glad for it … She would fill the silence when I was too nervous to say anything. So I just never really noticed, but… now that I want to, I can’t get a word in.” Uh-oh

[SPOILER] “I, uh, was wondering about the bill? … I can pay some of it now…”
She waves her hand. “It’s totally covered.”
I squint, my hand frozen over one of my jars. “What?”
“Yeah, Jim swung down here a couple of minutes ago and enrolled her in the same residential program he was in here at Erie Endeavors. It covers the cost in full.” STOP MAKING ME CRY FFS

[SPOILER] “I know it’s been hard since Dad left. … But I can’t keep taking care of you. … You are going to get help, or I…” … [Jim] gives me a small, encouraging smile. “Can’t have you in my life. Not if you refuse to even try. … If you won’t do this for you, please do it for me.”
I watch as her face changes from shock to confusion to understanding.
And finally… she nods, agreeing.” Oh thank god

[SPOILER] “I should never have left.”
“No way,” Jim says, shaking his head. “Listen to me, okay? From someone who knows from experience, you can’t be responsible for her anymore. … You’re going to be honest with her … and we’re going to get her some help … And … You’re going to go back to Pittsburgh, and get your degree, and stop carrying the weight of another person around.” I love that man

[SPOILER] “My ears are ringing too loudly to fully make out what he’s saying. I meet Jim’s gaze, and I think he can tell because he takes the phone and puts it on speaker. Words jump out at me as he talks to the police officer on my behalf.
“Pick up.”
“Help.”
“Drive?”
I nod, and he relays the information to the police officer.” Oh thank GOD she has Jim
