Shawn- “Another running back, which makes four down tonight. This is impossible to watch.”

I pull out the postcard I wrote to her on the drive over from the hotel and hand it to her. “For the pile.”
“What does this one say?”
“Probably something stupid about how much I love you and how I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together.”
“Yuck.” Maven sticks out her tongue. “Disgusting.”
“Seriously. It makes me sick,” I agree.

Proposal via postcard?

Shawn turns to Dallas. “You broke my trust, and there will be consequences. Losing your captain title is a possibility, and I’m not above benching you for the first half of the Super Bowl. I hate to make an example out of you, but I might fucking have to. It clearly didn’t stick the first time.”

“Your job with the Titans will be terminated immediately.” He pauses, and I squeeze my eyes shut. “An investigation will be conducted to verify the means in which your relationship started and to make sure there was no exertion of power by Dallas or any other members of the Titans team.”

“It’s from Shawn. ‘Maven, attached you’ll find a meeting request to discuss the disciplinary action for your violation of team and league rules. Next steps will be discussed, which, upon review of evidence, could lead to termination. Please be in my office by 9 a.m. sharp tomorrow morning. Thank you for your time. Shawn Holmes.’”

Dallas reads Shawn’s text to Maven

Maverick- How come you saved the grand gesture for when I’m on a five-game road trip, you asshole?
Dallas- How do you know what happened?
Maverick- Are you kidding me? It’s all over the internet. You’re trending on social media. Someone captioned the video and said: ‘if our love isn’t like this, I don’t want it.’ I’m not going to lie, I teared up a little.

When he yelled it to the entire team, to the entire world, I went weak in the knees. An arrow hit my heart and lodged itself there. I didn’t have a chance to say it back during all the chaos, but I do.
I love him more than I’ve loved anything in my entire life, and I can’t hide it from him any longer.
