Arguably my favorite detail from any of Welsh's novels: Begbie has a genuinely wonderful singing voice. And while he's proud of it and the attention it gets him, he also hates it because it's *art* and art can be interpreted as *weakness*. And Begbie CANNOT STAND to be seen as weak *in any way*.
