ok so like i'm enjoying this but all of this fan service stuff is really tiring like why are we meeting all the same characters instead of new ones??? haymitch being friend's with katniss' parents were one thing but then mags AND wiress AND beetee are also there?? it seems weird because none of these relationships were ever discussed in the original trilogy

Yeah there is some fan service but I think it works in the overall novel. Also isn’t there a scene in Catching Fire where Haymitch tells Katniss not to go for alliances with Wiress and Beetee? I guess that’s as much as they would hint toward Haymitch knowing them since he refuses to talk about his games

i do remember that scene yes but then it's also confusing because why would he tell them to not work with them if he knew that they were part of the rebel plot too ?? idk
