I don’t know why, but his side tangent about non-central characters in this book work better than the stuff in Kafka generally. Maybe it’s because I like the protagonist more.

The level of imagination and creativity on display here is staggering. It’s a real testament to what you can do with surrealism and a lack of conventional plot. I want to show this book to people who think all narratives have to follow a strict structure.

Story fell into a mini rut there. Some very repetitive dialogue and a lack of forward momentum in the story. Hopefully we’re back on track.

Now that’s how you do exposition!

One hour if not the best first hundred pages of a book I’ve read. This section featured gorgeous descriptions of cities melting in rain and whiskey turning to ash in mouths…… What a book!

I love the way this book can just shift tones from funny to seriously just like that.
