Read in the dark as M and R slept in the bedroom. Poor Fitzhugh Lee, captured! And interesting how the negro servant of the Lee's was caught by Federals, but escaped to return to the Lee's.

Read a chapter on the way to Foster City; another on the way back.

Nice to read in the night last night, working up late writing diary and getting myself to sleep.

Tons of wonderful progress in Sierra College library after test. I deleted the book when prompted by the "can't open" popup and suddenly realized I couldn't find it in the Archives folder. I was more nervous at this prospect than the test! (which was relatively easy) Poor Lee, the surrender and his free-flowing tears.

Nice to get a whole chapter at a time! So nice to get back into the Civil War after a week of Nutrition class. So uninspiring. But how tender - the men not daring to believe that Lee might die.

Very interesting reading, especially the immense amount of letters. So sad, Stonewall's death - and oops, what terrible Lee can't recognize his own son. Such nice to be able to read while driving in the dark, with this Kindle edition. Made lots of little notes.

Came to this with the mentality his son couldn't record unbiased history, but why say that? Trust at least his closest relative. The letters here are so valuable. So tender, the father side of Lee.
