ALSO i’m totally expecting la guardia to come up at some point later in this book, but with trieste being the primary port in austria-hungary itself i’m dying to know how italian-speaking emigrants from the region were appealed to by austrian authorities given the (well-known) obsession the italian state already had with nationalizing its citizens abroad. a lost cause since there were fewer triestine emigrants?

curious if there were any (small-scale) examples of successful multicultural austro-hungarian emigrant mutual aid associations or other such organizations
