really solid book to understand post-WWI and pre-Holocaust Jewish life in modern-day Poland/Belarus/Lithuania, with beautiful descriptions of a long but digestible list of characters, but just a slog of 700+ pages for little to no plot. would recommend for an independent class reading on Jewish studies (DNFing)
