“…the prophets and poets vision of return from exile is so awesome that it compels the people to hold onto Hope. And while the return under Ezra and Nehemiah was certainly a realization of God‘s faithfulness to his promises, it nonetheless only proved that more must come by the greater Son of David and Abraham. Finally, it is time in our study to encounter in Jesus Christ.” 😮‍💨

“Christians are, therefore, between two worlds, caught between the times, waiting for the full, final, and unqualified return to the Edenic presence of God, the reunion of heaven and earth.” (Pg. 113)

“Caught between the times” grips me… he captures the tension of the Christian in this quote, but especially here. So much hope, but so much longing in the same sentence.

“The end of all God’s purposes in creation and redemption is that humanity comes home.” (Pg. 3)

I felt that 😮‍💨… looking forward to how this is unraveled throughout the book. I’m walking away from ch. 1 already feeling the weight of the Fall and our eviction from Eden.
