Fascinating. The Quakers only adopted absolute pacifism after the Restoration. Thus it was a way of coping with unambiguous defeat, or recognizing that the cause of Christ's kingdom on earth had been lost in their lifetime. The struggle had to be renounced or at least indefinitely postponed... (Quakers as the Trotskyists of the English Revolution?)
