This book was so ahead it’s time, it feels so timeless in a way. Especially after the monologue about America’s kinetic energy of power being channeled into fascism through the war itself. To put it as the book does, “we’re no longer a backwards country”

Holy shit the whole thing with Polack telling Minetta why Gallagher is sad about his wife dying is so fucked up. We know he’s just projecting his cousin’s experience of being incapable of love onto Gallagher just because he’s a shit guy. Like it says in the scene where Gallagher is crying about his wife because he realizes too late she loved him at his worst. Wow.

The part with Gallagher’s wife is really sad. He’s not the best person so it’s hard for me to sympathize with him as much as I should. It’s painfully human though.
