Fukuyama is obviously well read and connects many classically esteemed thinkers to make cogent points defending what he describes as the true nature of liberalism, but misses the point with some of his premises. For example, on page 110 he says that Joseph McCarthy in 1940 is an example of right wing conspiracy that was exiled to the margins, as if McCarthyism didn’t define the next decade.

Very western and global north mindset. Considers Japan a liberal democracy even though there’s only 1 party, and then speaks poorly of China for having 1 party. Also completely ignores sub Saharan Africa, where many countries would fit into the list of examples being used better than the nations listed.

Completely misses on describing what progressives want in a post liberal society. Confuses race and gender equality for removal of class.

He also gives an example that comes off as generational blindness, blaming video games for a shift away from “interacting with the real world” in a “back in my day” point being made. No recognition for the social bonds made online, in discord, through video games, or generally in online spaces. Not to mention that going outside is expensive for kids. No skating here, no loitering there. Kids are paywalled.
