TLDR
Ending was not bad, it’s not cliche we’ll be fine as a family type stuff, and the spilling secrets (skeletons in the closet, eh?) Was a cool angle; Maybe in the future Bella will find kind soul who will let her in (she mentions she hopes to find a friend)

+ Entertaining, audiobook voice, short, paranormal, solution was unique
- unbearable characters, repetitive, slow plot progression

3.5* round to 4?

Grandma comes over saying a home is bigger than it seems, full of our experiences and places we’ve been;

MC’s in and out of sleep, her grandma says a house is one room, face distorted

She hides and parents search for her, grandma is dead in closet

She runs upstairs to her room, parents are lying on floor, then OM comes out of closet and MC answers “yes”

MC now goes where OM is from, hoping to find a friend

Interesting that they didn’t go church angle, I would’ve liked a ch w their interview and denial to help but that’s picky, doesn’t detract

The parents fight a lot, (before and after OM) so why are they together, how can I believe their love; I thought they would come together for their shared love of Bella and wanting to protect her but mom persisted on being ehh. So, yay a twist but the mom was unbearable

Child audiobook voice was eerie and able to convey her uncertainty, and innocence (she wouldn’t be scared talking to OM like an adult would, which makes it creepier); it didn’t feel too draggy cuz it was a quick read, but not a lot happens that advances story; the drunken monologues on her bed were weird, cuz like who tells their child these things, but if it were actually OM then ok I get it, pincher attack lol

Time to take away her innocence:

Omg her mom is unhinged, she clearly wasn’t ready to be a parent, why did she keep the baby? She took paternity test (she told both men about baby) and it was her first husband (who left after finding out about the affair) but MC’s dad stayed (wow, that’s a person ready to be a parent)

Obviously doesn’t work, Lois comes to the house and says they have to get rid of what OM wants, make Bella less appealing (less innocent, I’m guessing that her parents aren’t getting along)

They put distance and drive 100 miles to park

Mom admits she cheated on her first husband multiple times (incl her dad, which they lied how they actually met to Bella, then got pregnant and questioned who the dad was)

With OM being babysitter, mom agrees to find someone now


Guy comes over and investigates, then OM make appearance in kitchen and guy touches it then leaves immediately, he just wanted to witness one didn’t want to help

Family decide to do it themselves now that they know it can be touched

They get knives, get dressed nicely and make plan to stab it

They install motion detectors and get cane corsos

Her parents fight as dad looks for medium and mom is feeling trapped (basically feels bamboozled in motherhood, she’s literally stuck now)

OM as her babysitter lures her upstairs where they agreed not to go and he offers to help her parents stop fighting if he gets to be her for one day

The dogs are growling downstairs, MC runs to parents to go outside

Frank is the mom’s affair, who died in the closet; OM is helping them not get divorced; dad doesn’t want to sleep in that house for obvious reasons

MC is scared OM came back/c she doesn’t have any friends and that she might say yes;

Church refuses to help without proof

Stay with grandma’s friend, but MC goes to bathroom in middle of night and everyone sees OM holding face in hands, they run out and go back home

Her mom heads out idk where, dad is super nervous cuz OM has held her hand before

Grandma wants to bring medium in so Lois comes w friends to perform seance

OM used to be her friend, back when her parents wouldn’t talk to her and they would ask her walk ahead while they argued

One friend whispers "she wants you to know she gave u a present" and blows out candle

Mom comes back and says Frank (who?) is dead
