I’ve just moved into the fifth volume of Dom Guéranger’s masterpiece, and the transition from the "exile" of Septuagesima to the "warfare" of Lent is striking. Guéranger does an incredible job of shifting the tone from the somber realization of the Fall to the strategic, military-like preparation for the Great Fast.
