I have resorted to speed reading now. The earlier chapters of this book have been fascinating, but the latter have REALLY slowed down dramatically. I will finish it this afternoon come hell or high water.

So close to the fall of the Roman Empire

I love, love, love this author’s writing style! I feel smarter just reading a book by him! He is a Shakespeare scholar (“Will in the World” being similarly blow-away in quality. Cannot wait to get past the preface!
