Okay we are finally getting to the meat of this … a wild little time. Dorian’s thoughts about his own soul; the nature of this book and how it discusses what people view as sacred. Youth, experience … the ability to gain immortality but at what cost ?
Fascinating stuff

i wonder if Dorian Gray would have felt the need to do any of this if he had gotten to experience house music just once. like maybe all this pining and selfish expression could have been mitigated by going to a rave. idk. i think a lot of time periods would have been different if they had gotten to experience insane music but maybe that's just me

It's like part social satire and part journey into manipulation.
Lord Henry's disposition is that of someone who takes great pleasure in control, but also in watching life as though he's not a part of it. He's definitely a little psychotic, which is part of his appeal, so knowingly charismatic.
Dorian is susceptible to his influence, and Basil seems to have a good head on his shoulders, albeit lost in his art.

"the ugly and the stupid have the best of it in this world. they can sit at their ease and gape at the play."
i can already tell this is going to be one of those I wish I could highlight (sorry, library book,) because a few pages in and I'm enthralled by the wording, the feeling
