I love this part about homosexuality (lesbianism) in the jail and the kinship networks formed between women. Switching pronouns, marriages officiated by other inmates and so on. Fascinating.

The account of her jail experience is pretty heartbreaking... Puts me in mind of Connie of Woman on the Edge of Time in many ways.
