Loving the way there are 3 stories going on and 3 chapters were spent gearing each story up for battle. Was listening to POI soundtrack, was oddly fitting bc the music also was tied to an impending series of battles.

Reading after a long break takes me back to an era of live tv when shows would randomly take a month off and then you have to remember what happened. Luckily I can jog my memory here.

Oh how often we wish it isn't the people we most suspect, eh, Glokta? Wish Logen were my mentor tbh. Wish West didn't have to deal with shit management, the contractors (Northerners) left smh.

Book: Yulwei, a black skin-toned Magi, breaks into Glokta's home while he was asleep.

Me: Damn imagine a man breaking into your home while you're asleep.

Also Me: Damn I'm so proud of myself for being very not racist by not thinking "Imagine a black man breaking into your home while you're asleep".

Logen Ninefingers? More like Logen Wisezingers.

Do everything to avoid battle, but if it comes to it, do not hesitate. I'm kinda like that but when it comes to combat with a hefty meal.

Favorite running gag is how the book lowkey forgets about Luthar for a while and then brings him back in just to show how much he isn't contributing.

Jezel spends all chapter bitchin' n moanin' but in the midst of it starts talkn' some crap about not "wallowing in self-pity". What a funny scrotum of a man.

Dude also gets ragebaited constantly by Logen Goatfingers telling him things are ez actually. Relatable.

God bless Prince Ladisla. I would've called his character painfully caricaturized (in a good way), but then I remembered I actually talked to a person THAT disconnected from reality. Painfully realistic (bad but also good).

Stupid West, thinking he can moralize over the prison industrial complex. Boutta get railed by Arch Lector long after I forget about this.

"Logen lay on his belly..." so cute.

This book GOT the juice. We get introduced to the more morally sound, but not naive, aristocrats running Dagoska. Kahdia represents the marginalized, Eider the economy she was forced into upholding. Framing these around Glokta's crisis of humanity is absurdly good. They're all trapped in the politics required to keep their interests. That, and Glokta's got torture. But hey! He saved a girl... but she's now a servant.
