“Is it too late to love you, Lev Federov?” she asked him, her hands finding his, and he laughed, pulling her with him.
“Sasha, it’s never too late for us,” he promised hoarsely, and with a brush of his thumb on her cheek, they both vanished into the dark.

“Tell me what I said to you. What was the last thing I said to you, Sasha?”
“You said,” she began, and swallowed. “You said, ‘I’ll find you, Sasha’ “
“Yes. I said I would find you.”

“Meet me where we first met,” she decided. “That first night, when you—“
“When I kissed you, yeah.” She could hear him grinning on the other side of the phone. “You’re testing me, aren’t you? You think I won’t remember, but I remember everything. Every detail. Test me all you want, Sasha Antonova,” he said with a laugh. “Believe me, I’ll pass.”

“I’ve loved you through so much distance it seems strange to hold you now,” he said quietly. “Like something could so easily take you from me.”

“I’ll discredit him, one Borough witch at a time, and gain my own empire. My own life. One that, one day, might be worthy of you.” He bent his head, touching his lips to her forehead. “Someday, Masha,” he murmured, “I will have done enough to give you everything you deserve, and perhaps then it will be enough to bring you back to me.”

“Then believe this, Masha: I choose you. I will always choose you.”
