I wish I had the kind of gratitude and contentedness that would revel over a tin cup and candy cane for Christmas. Goodness. Puts life into perspective.

It is so sad to me to see the Indians forced to leave their homes, but I can also imagine how scary it must've been to be a white settler encountering a people so very different from yourself who you couldn't communicate with and who may have been aggressive. All around a very sad situation that didn't have to happen that way.

Alethea is loving this Laura book much more than Big Woods.

Ooooof. Some of the bits in here are hard to read aloud to my kids.

I guess I should've known, but I didn't realize malaria was in the US in the pioneer days.
