chapter 6 --- i loved the end of chapter five, the imagery of the people as earth, and being called dirt in a derogatory way their whole lives, but turning that around, and it being the very earth that crushes the enemy---their very blood, now, a torrent of victory; this [revolution] was a sea of vengeance, and the tide is still rising.

rin was stupid to think that any of those men—even Zhuden who helped her, really for his own reasons, to get rid of Ma Lien—actually trusts her or thinks her useful…especially not Gurubai and not Cholang either. they’re all older and probably think she’s just a stupid little girl, because she is. yang souji seems like such a good guy—but those are the kind of guys you can’t trust.

ofc rin doesn’t understand she’s fighting for the people, not the land, she’s too selfish to come to that conclusion on her own. she really is just a party trick— and if it weren’t for kitay, she’d just been a trick out of control.

rin always acts so shocked that maybe people older than her might actually know something. like, if she’d SHUT UP for at least TWO SECONDS, maybe he wouldn’t be so extraordinarily astounded.
