Chapter 16, the rendezvous between Julien and Mathilde, was such an amazing psychological chapter of passion, sex and love. The thoughts between the two, switching back and forth quickly, are such a fascinating look inside two characters mind during a tense amorous meetup that explores how playing roles robs us of pleasure, role of vanity in love, and the clash between the ideal and reality of love.

big fan of the trains of thought from Mathilde and Julien. Mathilde doesn't say in her train of thought why she is drawn to Julien, just like how in our real lives we can't properly find the words or reason why someone catches our interest. it is up to the reader to interpret it. The psychological thoughts of Mathilde are a joy to read, a look into her psyche, both the rational and emotional is left to the reader.

love that is a crime (adultery) makes it so much more intense and exciting due to its forbidden-ness. The angst, the desperation, the bond that it creates between the two lovers. I'm on the edge of my seat now!
