While I enjoyed the idea of this rendition, I felt something was missing. The first two chapters begin with much intrigue. I love Douglass’s use of real history as a catalyst for Nick migrating North. West Egg as an academy was also intriguing, but it’s not a major part of the story.
Nick and Jay’s relationship was obsessive, and I found Nick to be possessive in a way that didn’t connect me to their love.
