I really want to like this book. Familiar setting and fun references. Secret society. Taking on privilege, racism, and misogyny in the upper echelons. But even those tropes and themes aren’t enough to make me overlook plot holes filled by unlikely coincidences, bad choices that feel designed to build / stretch out tension, or character swivels that hadn’t been earned. It’s a DNF for me.
