بقَرْنِ الغزال طَعَنَتِ السماء، فسال الكلام
ندى في عروق الطبيعة. ما اسم القصيدة
أمام ثنائية الخَلْقِ والحق، بين السماء البعيدة
وارز سريرك، حين يحن دم لدم، وين الرخام؟


With a gazelle’s horn you stabbed the sky, then words flowed
like dew in nature’s veins. What’s a poem’s name
before the duality of creation and truth, between the faraway sky
and your cedar bed, when blood longs for blood, and marble aches?

هل كنت لي ضفتين
وكان المكان كما ينبغي أن يكون
خفيفاً خفيفاً على ذكرياتك ؟
أي الأغاني تحبين
أي الأغاني؟ أتلك التي
تتحدث عن عطش الحب
أم عن زمان مضى؟


Were you as two embankments for me
and was the place as it should be
light-footed on your memories?
What songs do you love
what songs? The ones
that speak about love’s thirst,
or about a time that has passed?

إن نَظَرْتِ وراءك لن تبصري
غير منفى وراءك
غُرْفَةُ نومك
صفصافة الساحة
النهر خلف مباني الزجاج
ومقهى مواعيدنا... كلها، كلها
تَسْتَعِد لتصبح منفى، إذاً
فلنكن طيِّبين
If you look back you will see only
the exile of your looking back:
your bedroom,
the courtyard willow,
the river behind the glass buildings,
and the café of our trysts ... all of it, all
preparing to become exile, so
let's be kind!
