this is genuinely so hard to read. each chapter unfolds something so disgusting that is baked so completely into this country. you can see so clearly how we’ve gotten to where we are today. there is no “this isnt who we are” because it’s exactly who and what we are and every elected official has worked to uphold that violent truth
