This isn't simply an entertaining read for biology nerds.

Goulson lays out the lethal consequences of enormous industrial bumble bee farm operations. I had no idea of the scale of these operations or the utter lack of regulation when it comes to bumble bees being imported without any testing for the myriad nasty diseases they all have.

Important reading for well meaning bee farmers, environmental activists, etc.

I am thoroughly enjoying this so my criticism is rooted in the desire for more from the author. As with much current popular non-fiction, there is a complete absence of footnotes referencing the research behind the writing. I find this a big fault that doesn't help those of us who love to spread the word on this type of information. The index is treated as an afterthought. When I tried to find his reference to WHY
