Genuinely couldn't care less about the protagonist as well as her love interest at that point. The author just continues to throw trope after trope at the two - that's not how you build an interesting plot. That's how you write mediocre fan fiction.

(Will probably still finish the book because I still have some hope left that the author figures out, halfway through, how to actually tell an interesting story.)
