The main character has such a weird relationship with any other woman she meets. She always insults them about their looks, parenting, or whatever else she can find. The only times she doesn't are when

1) The woman in question sees her as a role model

and/or

2) The woman she's speaking to is directly praising her.

The not-like-other-girls attitude is positively radiating from this book.
