Just found out this book takes place in 1990. Why’d I think this was all happening in the 70s?? 💀 Pretty sure they’ve been making more 70s pop culture references than 90s… & This book uses the N-word ALOT. Stephen…you are way too comfortable saying that *side eye*

Bruh, I am not enjoying this book. When is the apocalypse gonna start?? Don’t get me wrong, there are some really interesting moments but it’s like a regular storyline. Someone goes to jail…and someone coughs in the background. Sally’s throat kinda hurt, so she went grocery shopping…and infected 13 people while doing so. I’m just ready for SHTF.

Hopefully yours has a lot less mentions of rape in it! Speaks the Nightbird has a lot!

Some people were recanting how they were raped by members of their former apocalypse group. Other than the occasional “you can’t go off on your own—you’ll be raped or murdered”, that’s about it. However, the racism, sexism, and ableism is quite prevalent.
I'm sensing a theme between Stephen King and Robert McCammon. Though, McCammon is writing about the Salem Witch Trials, so there's bound to be plenty talk of racism and sexism
