I have committed myself to finishing the book, but this trickster’s padded writing gets on my nerves! I believe people who declare exasperation with the craft vs Art debate are trying to validate their craft. Just because in hockey and figure skating both wear ice skates and take place over ice it doesn’t mean they’re the same! Both are valid and take great skill, but there’s a bug difference.

Take being an artist seriously, but don’t take it too seriously. Don’t go to college, don’t collect debt. Work menial jobs, take trips and Eat Pray Love! Never ask for permission, be aware of your fears and learn to manage them. One day you too may become famous, or not, be creative, but realistic. Art doesn’t matter, but it does. This is a self help book, never write one. My Brazilian sweetheart!

I realized that I’m guilty of “defending my limitations.” Often listing my lack of experience/skill, studio space, supplies, money, etc., in order for friends to back off when they demand I should “do something with my talents!” Also, that fear and creativity are conjoined twins and we ought to negotiate with our fear in order to let creativity blossom. Her writing style is too mawkish for me.
