My novel, "The Mysterious Benedict Society", is a story told in chronological order. Specifically, the book uses chapters to tell a great story full of mystery and friendship. The book starts out describing the talents of Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance and ends when they reign victorious against the evil Mr. Curtain. I think the author wrote the book this way to emphasize the characters' developments.

In my novel there are static and dynamic characters. Constance, who is a member of the Mysterious Benedict Society, is a dynamic character. She starts out as an ignorant, rude, and nonchalant character. By the end, however, Constance proves her love and talent when she resists the Whisperer at the head of the book and defeats Mr. Curtain. Mr. Curtain, though, is a static character because his evil is perpetual.

The antagonist is a character that opposes the hero and wants to take evil actions against someone or somewhere. In my book, the antagonist is none other than the malicious Mr. Curtain. He opposes the Mysterious Benedict Society and wants to control the world with the Whisperer, a device capable of sending hidden messages that brainwash people into following him. Mr. Curtain is obsessed with world domination.

My book has a character versus self conflict. I know this because when Reynie was first introduced in the first chapter, he was struggling with his place in society. Even though he loved having Ms. Perumal around, he had always felt like a lonely orphan. But after he was offered a place on Mr. Benedict's special team of children, he felt purposeful and befriended. This result was also because of Kate and Sticky.
