This is coming along nicely, a rocky start into a solid buildup!

After slogging my way through the prologue in confusion. Oh this just got so much better. It could be because I love a well-written dual timeline, it could be because I love pirate theming, but once you get past the prologue this book gets so much better. Don’t bother keeping track of the knights like I did when I was stressing out, because spoilers, so far only the relevant ones survive intact

Not a good book to read while deliriously sick. There are quite a few characters all talking at once and it’s freaking me out. I am normally a fast and clever reader

We are on page 7. I am reminded of the hobbit because they’re introducing as many people as possible

“An immortal city of mist and stone, ruled by an immortal lady” what

Andry- the squire
Sire Grandel- mortal(?) knight
Rowanna and Marigon, immortals from somewhere called Sirandel. Also someone called Arberin included with them. They wear purple chain mail
Nour- genderqueer/intersex(unspecified) person from Ibal. Described as gold?
Surim- possibly from Tarima(?)
Dom- Oak tree guy. From Iona/Caldion
Elders=Vedera (same thing)
Old cor empire?
Allward/ward is the world

It’s page six and already we’ve described the presumed characters of color as honey, gold, and bronze. I guess melanin makes you shiny in this world
Also they described someone as being “mostly oak and antlers” and that made me think he was a bony tree creature.
I know I’m being snarky I’m sorry

And another page zero update. I did accidentally see a review while adding this to my list, and they said “no romance” negatively. Luckily I prefer endless worldbuilding and combat to romance. If anyone kisses that reviewer’s a liar and I’ll be mad
