Inciting Incident: in Anne of Green Gables, Marilla tells Anne that they sent for a boy at the asylum. Anne, who was taking in the wonderful sights of Green Gables, is shocked and begs to stay. It says on page 23, "Suddenly, she seemed to grasp the full meaning of what had been said...'you don't want me!' she cried. 'You don't want me because I'm not a boy..'" Anne is sad, but Marilla talks about her staying instead.

Anne of Green Gables shows perspective from Ms. Rachel's eyes. Ms. Rachel is smart and "worthy". In my opinion, she's the nosy neighborhood watcher. On page 1 it says, "...if she noticed anything odd or out of place she would never rest until she had ferreted out the whys and wherefores thereof." Also, she was literally spying outside her window to find "evidence". Honestly, Ms. Rachel needs to mind her own business.
