Again, very well written art book. I don’t expect an in depth autobiography from Taschen books. They’re coffee table books for a reason and Taschen deals more the business side of the art world. I don’t think Emmerling expects anyone to actually read his notes here more than admiring Basquiat’s art. The comparison with the Blemyer tribe certainly proves it.another

What a well written art book. Pausing here to look up the Blemyers who, unbeknownst to me, seemed to have inspired Basquiat at some point. Well maybe.

I didn’t expect this one to be such a delight!
Emmerling really plunges his audience in the world of Basquiat. I find myself analyzing his art along with Emmerling’s interpretations’s of all layers painted, while also being excited by Basquiat’s hommage to his black heroes and artists. I am decoding the painting Charles’s The First, finding the word Cherokee, and next playing Charlie Parker’s Cherokee!
