The narrator awoke in a hospital and was asked for his name. The narrator did not know his name and was quite ashamed of it. It revealed how he has been affected throughout the story considering he can't even remember his own name. "what is your name?". "I realized that i no longer knew my own name. I shut my eyes and shook my head with sorrow".

The narrator saw a sign that said: "Keep America Pure with Liberty Paint" and it makes me wonder, what exactly is liberty paint. Maybe Liberty paint has no colors at all, and it's just a way of saying that colored people aren't included in Liberty Paint.

I found it strange how it took so long in the book for the character to finally be affected by the hostility around him. the ironic thing is that something as simple as making a decision is what made reached out and caused him to feel so low. A beating didn't affect him, yet not giving him a voice did? This character is quite strange.

The character continues on with his life with so many questions. He sees an old rusted statue with a bird's poop stain on it. It came to mind that it could possibly have been a symbol for false hope or lies shown. The character just seems so lost, and when he saw that statue, he described it so well and it seems like as if perhaps it affected him.

As i read this book I continue to see how one man can feel so left out from society. A black man is ignored and seen as nothing causes him to go close to insane. He practically beats man to his death(pg. 3) because of his emotions. It just makes me wonder if this might happen in today's society.
