The author makes Celeste a very likable character in this story. Her inner thoughts and feelings are very relatable and real to what almost everybody feels on a daily basis. Her view on her own emotions reflect our current society a lot, but her character development make for a very important message about embracing those feelings and allowing yourself to fully feel them.

The catalyst of this story happens early on, when Celeste makes the decision to save the human prince (that she had spotted a couple days earlier) instead of taking down their ship. This changes everything as the only thing Celeste can do to return home is kill the prince, so she makes a deal with the sea witch to get legs and start her new mission.

A lot of the chapters in this book end in either a cliffhanger, or with a day ending so that the next chapter can start fresh almost. You are always left wondering what's going to happen next, and what other secrets will arise.

Celeste is a very regal and classic name, which checks out since the main character is a princess. However, underneath the surface it is a delicate and strange name. It is perfect for the main character since she wants to be her own person and doesn't want to be perfect, but she is also delicate and too caring for the Chorus life.

The author uses indirect descriptions to describe Celestes's personality and flashbacks to her younger cycles. She uses direct descriptions when introducing a new side character and for physical descriptions.

The title catches my attention because it instantly makes me think of Sirens, but not about them but about their siren song. The title makes me think that this book could be about the curse of her voice and how she feels that it isn't really hers.
