How do you feel about reading tragic animal books?

I am torn between wanting more animal stories, rooted in my deep love for other-than-human animals, and fearing the darkness, sorrow, grief, pain, and terror they bring.

I don't feel the same about human tragedy. Those books can break me, but I am never afraid to read them. Nothing leaves me a whimpering puddle like the tragedy of other animals, since childhood.
