I like how Stephen tries to immerse you into his books by adding a ton of detail, to try to make it seem like you are there, dealing with pins and needles in your legs.

I think this shows how the detective is just getting use to retirement, but it is going to be interesting to see how he deals with Mr. Mercedes.
