So far we've met Tartelin, Marianne, the old mermaid, the march man (Jacob Hall), Nan (briefly), Papa, and Mama. Tartelin revealed her mother is passed and is trying to get Marianne to reveal more about her past.

The Stourbridge had to leave the island in 1955, the same year of the mutated butterflies in the cabinet. I wonder which nation occupied the island WWII, and they definitely ran some sort of illegal tests.
