Although I'm not very far, I've read that the main character Thomas woke up in a world of confusion. The element of fiction I see is characterization, setting, and beginning of conflict. Some characters were introduced such as Chuck, Alby, and Newt. And also, an enemy: the monster of the maze, which starts the conflict. And the author describes the Glade in an interesting, eye-catching way.
