I take back my earlier update. I understand the confusion because an ethnography this is not. this is far more of a narrative nonfiction than an ethnography and I am certain De Leon knows that. I am going to finish this with an open mind HOWEVER I do think my already negative impression is salvageable.

I found the intro aggravating and worried that was a bad sign for the actual meat of the book but then I am reading negative reviews and most of these people do not understand anthropology or what an ethnography is. De Leon even knew this so he explained both terms/practices in the intro that people obvious did not read. le sigh.
