the chapter of the new age of discrimination and how designs of ai are misogynistic was interesting! i feel like this was the most “well known” part of the book but it still had new facts/aspects I hadn’t considered like gender based ads or AI ‘replacing’ female saturated industries like education or healthcare. less depressing than previous but maybe that’s because I’d been exposed before

chapter review: the new age of coercive control and image based sexual abuse. found the terminology thought provoking (won’t be using revenge pornography anymore) and liked how bates tied back to victim blaming/slut shaming. this was a tough chapter to read though in terms of statistics, men’s quoted words and the fact that nothing has changed in like 10 years to better this issue.

the new age of objectification and cyber brothels was kind of terrifying — bates made convincing arguments on how these normalize violent and rape tendencies and the effects it has on real women. her anecdotal story about Kokeshi and having to remind herself that the sex doll isn’t real while so many men believe “she” is was a tough one to read and a tougher one to swallow that male empathy is dwindling

chapter review: the new age of rape regarding sex robots. two things to say. 1) this chapter made me incredibly disgusted with some men’s behaviour and with misogyny and 2) “men’s dicks trump women’s rights every time” DEPRESSING BANGER

i found the chapter on the new age of slut shaming and deepfake pornography really interesting and particularly liked the thoughts on how sexual abuse like this is a threat to democracy.
