Still can't tell if the humour I'm reading into every fresh tragedy is intentional, or just me reckoning our dear main character deserves all the crap he gets, even though it's mostly others whonare suffering due to his actions and he remains blissfully unaware of all the damage hos stubbornness is causing. If the humour isn't intended, then damn this book is bleak.

Getting into this more, while reading several others. The opening chapter - introducing the local myths for context of superstitions and ways of life - remains the best, so it takes a bit of time to get back into the swing of things. Never thought I'd start getting engrossed by a novel about Icelandic sheep farming, but there you go...
