People lose them through age, memory, lack of use, or injury causes them to be lost. The cell phone saw a magic trick disappear before it could be finished because it was remembered. Knacks put on a show every evening. After them comes a great performance. A voice sings a beautiful opera song. Sometimes the voice tell stories. Something asks them in a whisper if they are looking for a toy pig. You betcha!

The Loser is jealous of the bodies of men and things which is why he is trying to build himself from junk. Jack finds a teddy with a sweater and borrows it. The weather is cooling down and snow falls. He’s cold and chilly. He worries about CP walking alone in the wastes, missing Jack and completely unaware that Jack has gone looking for him. Wouldn’t CP know since DP knows? Hmmmm.

Ch. 53 The sleigh takes off after Jack gets in. Jack is too nervous to talk so Santa tells him he has a big job to do after he drops off Jack. Then Jack asks how the presents get delivered and, of course, Santa says it’s by magic. Then Jack asks about who the Loser is. Some say the Loser was made by humans when their greed dripped down into the land of the lost. Others say he’s been there since the dawn of time.

Jack is committed even after Santa wonders if he’s better off going home. He says a tearful good-bye to DP and Toilet Paper Roll Angel and all the toys cheer him. DP says, “Losing is part of living but some of us live even though we’re lost. That’s what love does.” Hugging CP is like hugging DP and, because they are twins, DP will feel it. The Loser will go after CP because he’s broken many rules and brought a boy.

He is speechless. He’s never seen a living boy here. Jack makes his request for help. Santa can do it on his way out. There is an hour to go. He explains that he and the Loser do not see eye-to-eye on many things and the Loser rules the Land of the Lost, not Santa. He can transport Jack, though, but not set foot there. He can drop him off and leave. Jack will have to find his own way back if he’s able to rescue CP.

Whoever lives here is very tall! The house is a tall, wooden, human-sized house and it’s name is “The Grotto.” Jack apologizes for not giving the angel wings. He was only four when he made him. They knock and he hears loud footsteps coming to the door. A man with a snowy white beard, red pants, and white vest opens the door. Why it’s jolly, old Saint Nick! Santa is there to give things Christmas when he’s on holiday.

Ch. 52 The island is beautiful, and houses are in pastel colors. Cheerful songbirds sing in the background. DP and the angel are taking Jack to a famous person and Jack can’t imagine who it could be. The only thing here is toys and the mystery of where toys go is solved. There are doctors and nurses who repair broken toys. They are all so short (remember Jack had to be shrunk) they can’t reach the door knob.

He has found DP and he is not happy. He loves both DP and CP and he decides to rescue CP. DP cannot come with him. Only one can go home. DP has a wonderful life and he would rather CP be rescued and go back up there. Jack asks how he can go back when Hope is gone (LOL). Clever. Toilet Paper Roll Angel has a friend in high places!

Jack is sad because the Loser will eat the alivened part of CP, put bits on himself that he likes, and eat the rest. I wonder if the Loser was like those light beings with an attritude like Envy or Hate or Pride. Jack is heartbroken. He did not want this to happen because he thought he would take CP home for Holly and DP for himself. He sees what a good friend CP is. Last night’s salt water was tears, not the sea.

Jack can only bring back one toy. CP loves Jack so much in spite of the abuse the boy gave him. He’s willing to replace DP in the Land of the Lost. The problem is this: CP is not lost and he is not mislaid. He must go to the Waste of the Unlamented. He’s broken so many laws that nobody can help him. He’ll eventually be eaten by the Loser. Because DP and CP are twins (DOPPLEGANGERS), they know each other’s thoughts.

Ch. 51 Jack remembers CP. He’s surprised that CP is not there. He never heard a splash behind him. He looks toward the horizon and Hope is a speck, still carrying the tapestry. He realizes that CP never got off because he’s not allowed on the island. He’s never been deeply loved. He told fibs to Jack so that Jack would not feel guilty. He kept his distance at times so the Jack wouldn’t care about him. Why?
