A very sweet book about star-crossed lovers, before, during, and after WWII. Dealing with issues such as classism in Europe and clashes between Protestants and Catholics, the book chronologues a love story between a priest and the daughter of a shipping magnate, as they commit to each other, are ripped apart by war and the aftereffects, and ultimately re-find each other in their old age.
