I was really lucky to get this rare and expensive book on interlibrary loan for Classics Bingo. That said, I only have until January 25 - no rechecks on interlibrary loans!

Hi Lena, this is really topical in NZ right now. A guy in the NZ Navy got permission for a full face MOKO. It is the first time this has been allowed and has created a lot of media attention. He is happy he did it, but has commented that people treat him differently now - that they are 'scared of his face'

I saw!
I think one of the most relatable explanations I've read is that moko are like the old heraldic iconography, normally worn on shields for battle. The moko as well was about marshal prowess. On a daily basis though, I'm sure it's hard to have your face feared. (less)
