The story about the witches showing off their witchery can be seen as a scary story, not in the sense of gory horror but of reality. The story's scary premonition of the future even scared the other witches. This story shows that you don't need blood and guts to make a good story. All you need is reality.

Ts'eh does have mystical quality about her because the way Tayo dreams and expresses his love for her almost seems like she enchanted him to do so. Tayo even says that she's like Betonie, for she can see "reflections/images" in fire and rainwater. Ts'eh also makes a prediction that due to Emo's lies there will be fools tricked by those lies. Later on the reader learns that Harley and Leroy are the predicted fools.

Silko uses irony to portray the white people as gluttonous and greedy. Tayo mentions a lie that all colored people know to be true, which is that white people aren't thieves because they have the money to buy everything. The reader knows this to be false because over history the white people have stolen land, lives, and dignity from the Indian people. They did this not with money but through power.

The story includes many poetic stories of Indian ancestors or gods. I still do not understand the reason why they are apart of the story but i do feel like they reveal a lot about Tayo's native culture. Not only are they interesting but they are full of morals that can be used as life lessons.

I would really like to know who Josiah and Rocky are. The story is confusing because I feel that there is no pattern to it. It doesn't go in chronological order nor does it go in any set order. For example, chapter one takes place in the desert while chapter two is either in a hospital or train station, or both.
